Water is the only substance on Earth that exists in all 3 states of matter.
Read p. 190-191.
Create a diagram showing the 3 states of water.
Use the diagram on p. 191 and the picture above to label your diagram.
Evaporation
Evaporation is the change of state from liquid to gas.
Question: Will surface area affect evaporation?
Take an identical amount of water.
Place it in different containers.
Will greater surface area mean greater evaporation?

How do clouds form?
Cold air is more dense than hot air.
It sinks or stays closer to the Earth.
Warm air is less dense and rises.
As the warm air rises it brings the water vapor with it.
As the water vapor rises, it cools b/c it is colder the higher you go up into the atmosphere (sky).
The cooling water vapor condenses around dust particles to form water droplets.

Condensation
Water changes from a gas to a liquid.
Read p. 194. Look at the diagram.
As the warm air rises, it cools because as you increase elevation, you decrease temperature.
(elevation = distance from sea level)
The water vapor condenses to form water droplets.
(condenses = changes state from gas to liquid)
